As professional artists, our main job is creating art. Sometimes this can be a grueling task, because art is made of ideas, and ideas aren’t always easy to come by.

Whether you’re working on commission to help solve a client’s problem or developing your own concepts, one of your most valuable assets is your own unique creativity. That’s the true value of Illustration.

When times get tough, it can be helpful to have some tools at your disposal for finding or generating ideas.

Illustrator and friend of EFII Nate Williams has come to the rescue of artists everywhere with an incredibly useful article called Ideas for Generating Ideas.

I don’t want to say too much about it, because you just need to go read it three times and bookmark it for future reference, but it basically breaks down the main types of ideas Illustrators use to communicate concepts in a visual way. He even includes some inspiring examples of how these techniques have been used by others.

Well, what are you waiting for?

Go read it here.
